Luxury Motorcoach Meets Tough, New EPA Standards
Newell Coach has completed testing a prototype motorcoach
that meets new EPA emission standards without sacrificing
any of the luxury coach's interior spaciousness or high
levels of performance.
Newell Coach Corporation (www.newellcoach.com) has successfully
completed over 4,000 miles of testing on a prototype motorcoach
that's equipped to meet tough, new 2007 EPA emissions standards
for heavy-duty diesel engines.
Meeting standards while maintaining performance:
The powerful 625 bhp, 2,050 lb./ft. torque Caterpillar®
C15 engine uses Caterpillar's advanced ACERT Technology
to meet the new emission standards. This was done without
sacrificing any of the Newell coach's previous high levels
of performance and fuel economy.
Unique approach saves space:
Working closely with Caterpillar engineers, Newell took
the unique approach of placing a new, required exhaust particulate
filter under and alongside the engine instead of placing
it within the interior of the coach body and through the
roof as a major competitor has done. Newell's approach allows
the filter to be added without losing any valuable interior
space.
Keeping cool in Death Valley:
For the first 2,000 miles of the test, Newell staff drove
the test coach in the area surrounding Newell's Miami, Oklahoma
plant. In mid-May, after confirming excellent performance
under these conditions, the coach was dispatched on a long-distance
trip to the West Coast. This test included many miles of
driving in California's Death Valley during 100 degree F.
conditions. All the while, the Newell cooling system performed
flawlessly.
"We are committed to taking the lead in providing
products that meet high standards of performance, reliability
and environmental responsibility," says Karl Blade.
